Suction cups are a handy tool that can be paired with many household items and applied in different places in the home. You can use them to attach plastic tubes to bathroom tiles and act as clothes drying poles. Or stick them to glass for hanging paintings of home decor. You can also attach the cat hammock to the window by using suction cups.
When using suction cups, it’s important to ensure a tight seal and proper adherence. Therefore, when you open the suction cups package, do not rush to use it immediately. You need to have the following preparations.
Identify where you want to place the suction cups. Clean the surface thoroughly with a damp cloth or a common mild household cleaner. Use a clean cloth make the surface dry. If possible, wipe the surface with newspaper. Let everything dry thoroughly before next step.
Using warm water, wipe the suction cups with dish soap to remove any gunk from the material. Allow them to dry thoroughly before next step.
Boil a small pot of water and put the suction cup in. The heat will soften the plastic, which can help the suction cups stick stronger.
Remember, don't boil it too long. Remove the suction cups after 30 seconds and dry them with a lint-free cloth. Once they are dry, attach them to the chosen area for optimal suction.
When everything is ready, adhere the suction cups to your chosen area. Press firmly on the center of the cups, making sure there aren't any air pockets underneath. Air pockets will make your suction cups seal-less tight.
Wait for 24 hours after attaching suction cups before hanging anything, especially anything heavy, to allow the seal to strengthen.
If the suction cups still work well, press the centers occasionally to help them stay attached longer.
Boiling suction cups can revive them, but if the edges become frayed or losing stickiness. It’s time to replace them.
